Good, on balance

Had a problem recently and go a quick and useful response to a 1-star review, so have uprated it now to 4-star - thank you.

Strengths - I have used these maps in many countries and generally found them very useful. The information they contain is usually correct and the route-finding sensible. I like having the choice between fastest and shortest routes.

Weaknesses - the voice instructions are quite often wrong about the number of the exit at roundabouts. I have got used to seeing what the map shows instead of always believing the voice. The removal of Google searching some while back was a sad loss for those occasions when the app's own dataset omits somewhere. Would like to see that return.

Location when not using

On 20 Mar 2021 I wrote the review which I repeat below. I had hoped that 10 months or so would be long enough for Navmii to read the review, take note and fix the problem. I now believe that not only are they not reading these reviews, but as there have been no updates to the app in this time that they are no longer maintaining the app, and that possibly that they are no longer in business. I wonder how up to date the map data can be? I have reduced my star rating from 4 to 1.
On 20 Mar 2021 I said the following:
In iPhone settings I have selected “Location: While Using the App”. But when I stop using the app, a little blue bar at the top of the Home Screen tells me “Navmii is Actively Using Your Location”. To save on data usage, I have to go to Settings / Navmii / Location and change the setting from “While Using the App” to “Never” in order to stop the app from using my location. Then I have to change it back again to “While Using the App” ready for next time. I believe that when I first started using Navmii some years ago, “While Using the App” meant just that, and it’s only comparatively recently that this has not been the case. A fix will be much appreciated, as Navmii is otherwise an excellent navigation app.

Unusable since update

Was suddenly left without any maps after an automatic “update” and so app no longer worked. As I was trying to get somewhere in rush-hour traffic at the time, this wasn’t appreciated!

Repeated subsequent attempts to download a UK map were met with a message that I didn’t have 1.6 Gb of
Free space on my phone (I actually do, but how could it possibly require that much space?).

I have deleted the app and am going to try yet again with it as I used to find it good. If it continues to refuse to download a map, or if it lets me down again, I will give up with it.

Edit: I deleted and the-installed the map and have exactly the same problem as before. It says the UK map has been partially downloaded but that I need to “free at least 1620Mb and try again”. My phone has very little on it and at least 2Gb free space. Something is very wrong. I have no idea what more I can do to make this app work. I have older versions of the app (including with its old name) on older phones and may see if they still work while I research alternatives.

I see that many other users have reported exactly the same issue stretching back over two weeks. How poor that it remains evidently unresolved! However, thanks for historically providing a useful app for those of us without data plans. If you ever resolve the current problems, I will be interested in trying your app again. Although it was not often glitch-free, it usually worked. No longer.
