Hemlata is one of the finest vocalists the Indian music industry has seen and produced. In her career of over 4 decades, she has sung over 5000 songs across 38 languages, a feat only achieved by the greats. An interesting anecdote is gaining attention about the singer, which testifies her love and devotion to her craft. The singer featured in a song titled Kaun Disaa Mein Le Ke Chalaa Re Batohiyaa, that was included in the film Nadiya Ke Paar, considered a classic released in 1982. If the reports are to be believed, Hemlata was pregnant during the recording of this film. Not only that, the delivery due date had already passed. She is one of the only people in the industry to work during moments of hardship, which simply shows how devoted she was to her singing and career.
A biography titled Dastan-e-Hemlata was released on November 23, 2024, at the Sahitya Aaj Tak platform in Delhi, detailing the stories and experiences of the singer, written by famous journalist Dr Arvind Yadav. Hemlata gave several hits with fellow vocalist K J Yesudas, one of the most popular being Tu Jo Mere Sur Mein, composed by Ravindra Jain. Legendary music composer Naushad had stated about the singer, “Hemlata has the quality of Lata Mangeshkar’s voice and the innocence of Noor Jehan."

Hemlata sang another song in Nadiya Ke Paar, titled Jab Tak Poore Na Ho Phere Saat. The film, made under the direction of Govind Moonis, featured a total of six songs, all composed by Ravindra Jain. The cast of the film includes Sachin Pilgaonkar, Sadhana Singh, Mitali, Vishnukumar Vyas, Leela Mihra and others. It is produced by Tarachand Barjatya and written by Keshav Prasad Mishra. The cinematography was done by Sunil Sharma and distributed by Rajshri Productions.
A remake of the film was released in 1994, titled Hum Aapke Hain Koun, starring Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit as the leads. It was written and directed by Sooraj Barjatya.
