Apple Event 2023 Highlights: iPhone 15 Series, Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 Launched

iPhone 15 series pricing revealed

Apple has announced pricing for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Just like last year, the iPhone 15 Pro will be sold at starting price of $999, but the iPhone 15 Pro Max will start at a higher price point of $1,199 - presumably due to the new periscope camera setup. Here's the pricing for all smartphones.

The new cameras on the iPhone 15 Pro are capable of capturing advanced high-resolution videos that can be played on Apple's first spatial computer, the Vision Pro that will go on sale in select markets next year.

iPhone 15 Pro Max to feature improved 5x telephoto camera

The new iPhone 15 Pro is equipped with an improved 48-megapixel primary camera with support for  24mm, 28mm, and 38 mm lens modes. It has a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera and 12-megapixel 3x telephoto camera , but the iPhone 15 Pro Max has a 5x telephoto camera with 120mm focal length powered by a periscope camera setup.

New 'A17 Pro' chip debuts on iPhone Pro, faster USB performance

Apple says the new A17 Pro is equipped with a new architecture with support for 35 trillion operations per second along with improved GPU performance with support for ray tracing. The handset is also equipped with USB controller with USB 3 support for up to 10 gigabit transfer speeds, according to Apple.

iPhone 15 Pro to drop mute switch in favour of 'Action' button'

The iconic mute switch has been removed in favour of Apple's new 'Action' button that can be used to toggle silent or ring modes - but it can be programmed to perform other tasks like quickly starting a voice recording.

iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro announced with titanium chassis

The iPhone 15 Pro is here with a Grade 5 titanium chassis - the same material used on NASA's Mars rover -  with a 6.1-inch display, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max has a larger 6.7-inch screen. The devices will be lighter thanks to the switch away from stainless steel, according to Apple.

iPhone 15 pricing starts at $799 in the US while the base iPhone 15 Plus model is priced at $899, according to Apple.

Apple introduces the USB Type-C port with the iPhone 15


The iPhone 15 becomes the first iPhone to be equipped with a USB Type-C port. Apple is saying that USB Type-C has become universal, and it is a fact - it was arguably the last flagship smartphone maker to ship smartphones with its 10-year-old Lightning port.

iPhone 15 is equipped with Apple's A16 Bionic chip

Apple says the new iPhone 15 is equipped with the A16 Bionic chip that was introduced on the iPhone 14 Pro handsets last year. This is par for the course on Apple's smartphones now, and we can expect to see a more powerful chip on this year's Pro models. 

It also features a second generation ultra wide band chip (UWB). You can also use it to find your friends in a crowded location, according to Apple. 

Apple also says the its satellite connectivity service is being upgraded with AAA integration in the US and the general service is coming to more countries this year.

iPhone 15 camera features new 48-megapixel primary camera

The iPhone 15 is equipped with a 48-megapixel primary sensor, and the phone is equipped with a new 2x telephoto zoom, according to the company.It will also bring an improved portrait mode for an improved bokeh mode that will use machine learning to automatically switch on portrait mode when clicking images of human and animal subjects.


Apple's next event for 2023 — dubbed 'Wonderlust' — began tonight at 10:30pm IST and the event was streamed live from Apple Park in California. The company announced four new handsets in the iPhone 15 series. It also launched the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 at the September launch event. In line with announcements made at previous events, Apple's next operating system updates — iOS 17iPadOS 17macOS 14tvOS 17watchOS 10 , and macOS Sonoma — for eligible iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and the Apple Watch are expected to roll out to users globally in the coming days. Apple also announced a refreshed version of its AirPods Pro (2nd Gen) truly wireless stereo (TWS) with earphones at the 'Wonderlust' launch event.
