Throughout history blacks have contributed greatly for the betterment of mankind.

This is particularly meaningful when one considers the squalid conditions that the average black has been subjected to for most of the 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Not just in undeveloped countries but in highly developed ones as well. All of the Western world has been guilty of exploiting uneducated, poor and unrepresented blacks. That so many of the peoples achieved great things in those times is incredible. The likes of Douglass, Washington, Carver, Banneker, Micheaux, Pinchback, Spencer, McCoy, Julian and Allen, all achieved greatness, not by a stroke of luck, not by decree, not by entitlement, but by hard work to overcome terribly difficult obstacles.

My only concern is for those today who will chose to ride on the coattails of those who worked so hard, rather than to rise above their lot in life.

 

Tenguy, black people deserve to live as any other American--free. We all work hard and should prove ourselves but self worth and natural rights should not derive from personal exertion.

 

Don't confuse what I am saying. No one in this forum cares more for human and civil rights than I do.

My position is that many (by far not all) blacks ride on the coattails of those who sacrificed themselves to earn the rights, by taking undue advantage of those rights. We all know who they are when they are luminaries, but not when they are not so visible.

Several black celebrities have said what I am saying here, the most vocal was Bill Cosby, but many other agree.

That said, I would like you to listen to this speech, which many consider to be the greatest speech given in the twentieth century. Notice the different tone from Khalld Abdul Muhammad's speech, and the much larger audience:

This is a fine example of a speech that embodies what the "American Dream" was meant to be. This is why other countries people travel to the states looking for a better life. For the dream of not being discriminated against as they are (or might be) in their home country, and treated as equals in their struggle for an improved state of living..
